Asari have three life-stages. Maiden is the first after reaching maturity, where they wander around restlessly (and a lot become mercenary soldiers or strippers). Matron is the second, where they seek interesting mates to bear offspring with. Matriarch is the last one, where they've usually accumulated so much wisdom and knowledge that they end up advisors or tribal elders.
