Hoplitess of Themiscyra

A semi-sister to Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl, though about 1000 years younger, Hoplitess (a.k.a. Melpomene) was born on the island of the Amazons after a slave ship from West Africa crashed there during a storm sometime in the 1600s. After punishing the slavers, the Amazons freed the kidnapped Africans in the ship's hold and welcomed them into their society, having done the same with refugees from other lands for many centuries. One of the African women, who was pregnant at the time, gave her daughter a Themiscyran name out of gratitude for the Amazons' hospitality, and Melpomene was raised in the palace and tutored by Hippolyta herself, even allowed to drink from the Pege Athenas (Spring of Athena) as a child.
